Goan Raw Mango Fish Curry

Ingredients


  • 300 gms King Fish

  • 1 Medium Onion (1 half chopped roughly for masala + 1 half sliced finely for frying)

  • 3 Kashmiri Chillies

  • 3 Garlic Cloves roughly chopped

  • 1 small Raw Mango sliced

  • 1/2 inch Ginger roughly chopped for masala + 1/2 inch Ginger for frying

  • 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds

  • 1 tbsp Coriander powder/seeds

  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric for Marination + 1/2 tsp for masala

  • 1/2 Cup Scrapped Coconut

  • 2 Green Chillies slit

  • 1/2 Cup Thin Coconut Milk

  • 1/2 or 1 inch Tamarind soaked in water (as per your preference)

  • Water for grinding the spices

  • Cooking oil

  • Salt as per taste


Step by Step


  1. Marinate the fish with turmeric and salt and leave it aside for 1 hour

  2. Now add 1 half of the onion roughly chopped, garlic, ginger, coriander powder/seeds, 1/2 tsp turmeric, kashmiri chillies broken, scrapped coconut, tamarind pulp and little water and now proceed to grind it to a fine paste.

  3. Now heat some oil in a small pan and fry the marinated fish, don't over fry the fish once done, take it off heat.

  4. Heat some oil in a different vessel, then add the other half onion finely sliced, slit chillies, 1/2 inch Ginger finely sliced and fry well until onions turn golden brown, now add the ground masala to the vessel, fry the masala well until it changes the colour, once the consistency of the masala decreases, add the thin coconut milk and give it nice stir, add the fried fish too, give it light stir, now add water to the mixer jar shake it well taking all the remaining masala and pour it in the vessel, salt as per taste and stir well, once you find the curry is boiling, add the mango slices to it and stir it again, cover with lid and let it cook for 7 - 8 mins.

  5. Your Goan Mango Fish Curry is now ready to be served with some steamed rice.
